India on Monday advised its citizens in Iran not to indulge in non-essential travel until further notice, taking into consideration certain developments in that country.

The advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, "Indian citizens and PIOs in Iran should exercise caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, and monitor news as well as the website and social media handles of the Indian Embassy in Tehran." It further states, "Indian citizens in Iran on resident visas are advised to register with the Indian Embassy if they have not already done so."

Large-scale protest rallies are happening in Iran against the devaluation of the Iranian currency, the rial. Some people have lost their lives in conflicts between the Iran security forces and protesters.

On Monday, Indian time, US President Donald Trump warned Iran against using violence against the protesters. He said that the US is closely following the developments in Iran and will react aggressively if the Iranian government resorts to the killing of civilians.

On Air Force One, while returning to the White House from Mar-a-Lago, Trump was asked about reports of killings of protesters in Iran and his earlier comments that the US is fully prepared. Trump said, "We'll look into it. We're watching it very closely."

Trump drew a clear line on the use of lethal force by Iranian authorities. "If they start killing people like they did before, I think America will respond very strongly to them," he said.
