India is now home to Kia's first ever flex-fuel vehicle, the Syros Concept. The vehicle is fitted with a 1.0-liter direct injection turbo-petrol engine. According to Kia, the Syros Flex-fuel can operate solely on petrol, sole ethanol, as well as combinations of petrol and ethanol. The Indian automaker has yet to announce when it plans to launch the production model in the country.

The Syros Flex-Fuel is built using a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder, direct-injection turbo petrol engine. So far, Kia has yet to reveal the power output of its engine. Modifications to adjust to changing ethanol blends have been made on certain components of the engine such as the ECU, TCU, and fuel system. The standard Syros turbo-petrol comes with a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Maruti was earlier this year the first car brand in India to launch a Flex Fuel Car, the WagonR BioFlex, which costs ₹7.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The government is pushing for higher ethanol blending to reduce crude oil imports.

As higher ethanol blending approaches, several mass-market car companies have indicated plans to introduce flex-fuel vehicles in India. Toyota was the first to showcase flex-fuel technology with the Corolla Hybrid in 2022, followed by the Innova Hycross Flex-Fuel in 2023.

Hyundai showcased the Creta flex-fuel at the Auto Expo 2025 while Tata says it will launch its flex-fuel car by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
