BYD India has also showcased its DM-i technology in India. Soon to launch, this technology is going to provide Indian customers with greater range and enhanced fuel efficiency. The car's range will stretch over 1,200 kilometers using just a single charge. Here is what BYD's DM-i technology is and what it can do.

BYD's DM-i technology connects regular petrol/diesel vehicles and pure-electric vehicles through the best traits of each type. This technology differs greatly from its predecessor. The first significant feature of the new technology is engine-first architecture, which means that a petrol engine serves as the main power source, whereas the battery operates mainly as assistance.

The engine can work in various modes, allowing it to become completely silent or even generate energy for batteries by spinning while the wheels receive energy for movement from batteries.

One of the components of this technology is a 1.5-liter Xiaoyun petrol engine that provides an impressive thermal efficiency of 43.04%. The engine works together with one or several high-speed electric engines according to needs. This system can be switched between modes for improved performance and fuel efficiency.

The car operates on 100% electric drive. This mode is primarily suitable for urban use and daily commuting. In HEV Series mode, the Xiaoyun engine acts as a generator, charging the battery, and the electric motors power the wheels. This provides the car with a smooth and efficient ride, reminiscent of an electric vehicle.

Similarly, there's the HEV Parallel Mode. When the car requires more power, the petrol engine directly powers the wheels, providing full support to the electric motor.
