Following the announcement of a 'smart fence' along the Pakistan-Bangladesh border, Union Minister of Home and Cooperation, Amit Shah, laid out a quadrilateral strategy for ensuring security along the entire border.

The Union Minister claimed that this four-pronged strategy, jointly developed by the BSF, Army, villagers, and local administrations of the border region, will ensure complete safety on the border.

While addressing a meeting of sentinels at Sanchu Post near Bikaner, Shah asserted that prevention of any infiltration is our duty, and that can be fulfilled only with the help of a quadrilateral security network. Following his visit to Rajasthan, Amit Shah will also pay visits to the borders of Gujarat, Tripura, and Bengal.

Thus, Amit Shah left no ambiguity regarding the nature of border security. The BSF will have to monitor illegal smuggling and infiltration, as well as cross-border activities day and night, along with the traditional border duties.

Also, the army will have to prepare itself for cross-border activities. The BSF will have to monitor all activities, including illegal construction, in border areas and ensure action, as needed, by involving the local administration.

Villagers in border areas will have to be made aware of illegal smuggling and infiltration. According to Shah, this was the purpose behind expanding the BSF's jurisdiction from 15 kilometers to 50 kilometers.

According to Shah, in addition to threats emanating from across the border, the BSF will also have to monitor internal threats from within the border. Some individuals within the border are also used for anti-national activities.

Shah explained that they will not only have to be monitored, but also strict legal action will have to be taken against them. A smart security grid is being created along the border with drones, radars, and modern equipment.
