The aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices increased by 5% on Friday. The prices are set to increase for the second consecutive month in response to rising global energy prices. The price for ATF remains unchanged for domestic airline flights, meaning that domestic flight prices will remain constant as well.
After May 1, prices for ATF in Delhi increased by US$76.55 per kiloliter, which constitutes an increase of 5.33%, bringing the price to US$1511.86 per kiloliter. Since jet fuel prices increased by 5% following the April 1 price increase, this marks the second increase in a month. As a reminder, jet fuel prices were deregulated 20 years ago.
Global energy prices have surged due to the West Asian crisis. The government and state-owned oil companies have adopted a flexible approach. Foreign airlines will pay market rates, while prices for domestic airlines have been controlled.
