Fuel surcharges have been reduced by Air India for routes to North America, Australia, Europe, and UK following a decline in oil prices.

The reduction was announced by the airline in a statement on April 7, when the cost of crude oil and jet fuel had risen due to the unrest in West Asia. The increased costs of operation had led to higher expenditure for the airline.

Jagran Sources said on Thursday that the fuel surcharge has been reduced from $280 to $200 per ticket for flights to North America and Australia, and from $205 to $125 for services to Europe and the UK.

Jagran Sources said the revised fuel surcharges are effective from July 1. There was no comment from Air India. Fuel surcharges for the airline's other international and domestic flights remain unchanged. Fuel surcharges for flights to North America, Australia, Europe, and the UK came into effect on April 10.

On April 7, the Air India Group announced fuel surcharges ranging from US$24 to US$280 for international flights and from US$299 to US$899 for domestic flights, except on select routes.

The group adopted this measure following the government's decision to limit the increase in domestic aviation turbine fuel prices to 25 percent.
