A probe into the source of adulterated ghee in the Laddus Prasadam at Tirupati Balaji temple shows that the ghee involved in the Tirupati Laddus Prasadam is made from refined palm oil, palm olein, and some chemicals.

This has been informed by the principal investigating authority on Friday following the arrest of the promoter of a ghee manufacturing company in a case of money laundering. As per a statement by the ED, Kailash Chand Mangala, promoter of Sukriti Foods, was arrested by the ED’s Hyderabad office on September 17 in relation to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) ghee adulteration case. He was produced before the Special Anti-Money Laundering Act court in Visakhapatnam, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The ED claimed that investigations revealed that the adulterated ghee used in the preparation of Tirupati Laddu Prasad was made using refined palm oil, palm kernel oil, palmolein, and several chemicals such as MG-90, monoglycerides, Myvaset Soft 400, and acetic acid ester, and was later supplied to the TTD as Agmark Special Grade cow ghee.

It is claimed that adulterated ghee worth Rs 230 crore was supplied to the TTD during 2019-2024. Of this, adulterated ghee worth ₹96 crore was manufactured by Mangala in his factory.

Mangala is one of the conspirators in this case. He supplied adulterated ghee through collusion with several companies, including Shri Vaishnavi Dairy Specialities, Malganga Milk & Agro Products, and A.R. Dairy Foods.

Mangala created false records related to the purchase and sale of ghee and refined palm oil to conceal the use of adulterants and to create the appearance of producing and supplying genuine cow ghee.

The ED had previously arrested Vipin Jain, promoter and director of a company called Bhole Baba Organic Dairy Milk, on similar charges.
