Meta-owned WhatsApp has rolled out several new features as of Tuesday. The major feature is the ability to make audio and video calls directly from the web browser instead of using the desktop app for the same. Meta claims that this feature makes it easier for people to use WhatsApp on various devices.

According to WhatsApp, you can now make both one-to-one and group calls from the browser. There will also be a dedicated call tab for screen sharing, reaction to messages while making calls, and call history as well as favorite contacts. This feature will benefit those using shared computers, office laptops not allowing app installation, or people preferring browsers over apps.

WhatsApp has also introduced a call transfer feature, allowing users to easily transfer an ongoing group call from their mobile phone to a computer or another device without disconnecting it.

WhatsApp has also added a waiting room feature to make group calls more secure. If the option "Require approval to join" is selected while creating the call link, new people will not be able to join the call directly. They will first remain in the waiting room and will be able to join the call only after getting approval from the host.

WhatsApp said that the QuickHD feature has also been added, which will provide high-definition video as soon as the call starts. The noise suppression feature will reduce ambient noise, so that voices can be heard clearly even in crowded or noisy places. WhatsApp said that all these new features are being gradually released to all users.
