The Brazilian national football team will not see its most prominent star player, Neymar, in action in their first match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Morocco. Speaking about the situation with Neymar at the pre-match press conference, Carlo Ancelotti reported that the Brazilian player suffered a leg injury and could not play throughout the group stage. However, just before the match against Morocco, the semi-finalist of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ancelotti reported some progress in Neymar's fitness but denied his readiness to take part in the upcoming games of Brazil.

After playing against Morocco, Brazil is going to face two other opponents, Haiti and Scotland, on June 19 and June 24 correspondingly, in Group F of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Nevertheless, Ancelotti made it clear that Neymar will probably not take part in any of the two forthcoming games of Brazil. As a 34-year-old veteran player from Santos, Neymar failed to join in training on Friday. In addition, he did not participate in any friendly matches before entering the World Cup squad.

He said, "He can be a good example for the young players in our team." Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Neymar is vital to the team not only through his play but also through his experience and leadership. Ancelotti said that Neymar's experience can greatly help the team in their quest to win a record sixth World Cup title.

Brazilian star player Vinicius Junior also praised Neymar. He said, "Neymar inspires me." I want him to get fit soon and return to the field. We are all waiting for him to play again." However, the Moroccan team says that Neymar's absence will not affect their strategy. Moroccan coach Mohamed Ouahbi said that his team had prepared for both situations, whether Neymar plays or not. Ouahbi said, "We prepared to face Brazil with and without Neymar. His absence will not change our plans."

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi admitted that he was disappointed not to face Neymar, one of football's biggest stars. The Paris Saint-Germain defender and Champions League winner said, "I want to play against the best players and Neymar is one of the best."
