The defending champions of the Indian Premier League, RCB, have started their training camp at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the first training session, the former skipper Virat Kohli made it clear what he wanted from the players. He asked the players to forget the win they got last year and “switch on” this year.
Kohli said, "We have worked very hard to achieve the position we have achieved in the last 2-3 years." This time the challenge will be even tougher, as other teams will try their best to defeat us. We mustn't waste a single day. Don't waste a minute of any session we're in. We must give our best for the next two and a half months.
This season, some notable new faces are visible in the RCB camp. Head coach Andy Flower expressed confidence in the team selected at the auction and welcomed the new players. While the team boasts experienced names like Venkatesh Iyer, Jordan Cox, and Jitesh Sharma, the coach has also invested in young talent.
RCB has also given opportunities to future stars this season. Coach Flower specifically mentioned Under-19 World Cup winners Kanishk Chauhan and Vihaan Malhotra. Players like Mangesh Yadav, Vicky Ostwal, and Satvik Deswal are getting the opportunity to bond with Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, which is crucial for the team's strength.
Coach Andy Flower reminded the players of the star on their jerseys, a testament to their status as champions. He said, "It's a matter of pride for our fans that we're coming out as champions, but the last season is over. Our first match is on the magnificent and lush Chinnaswamy grounds. Starting the season among our fans is the perfect opportunity to build momentum."
The team's new wicketkeeper, Jitesh Sharma, also seemed excited. He said the team atmosphere is great and he's looking forward to spending as much time as possible in the net sessions. RCB will play their first match on March 28th against Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Coach Flower believes that starting at home is a great opportunity for them to build momentum.
