Chhattisgarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission declared Vistara Airlines guilty of serious lapses in services and trade practice, and has imposed a fine of ₹1.10 lakh. This includes ₹10,000 for legal expenses, which is to be given to the complainant, Additional District and Sessions Judge Bhupendra Kumar Vasnikar, as compensation for emotional distress.

The commission has stated that in case the payment is not made within 45 days, Vistara has to pay 7% interest annually in the amount. This complaint has been filed against ADJ Bhupendra Kumar Vasnikar working in Kanker. Judge Vasnikar was coming back to Raipur from Delhi on May 28, 2023, after visiting his family in Kashmir.

Four tickets of Vistara were booked by him on May 9 for ₹23,156. He reached Delhi Airport at 2:00 PM, four hours before the scheduled flight on May 28.

Despite this, Vistara staff did not issue him a boarding pass for three hours. Eventually, one hour before the flight, the judge's ticket was cancelled citing overbooking, and only his wife, son, and daughter were sent to Raipur.

The ADJ was forced to stay back in Delhi and had to purchase an IndiGo Airlines ticket for ₹18,823 to travel to Raipur the following day. A bench comprising Commission President Prashant Kundu and Member Anand Varghese found that the ticket the judge had purchased for ₹7,204 on May 9 was sold by the airline to another passenger for ₹40,000 on May 28.

The airline claimed that no alternative flight was available, so they refunded four times the fare. The Commission rejected this argument.
