When an insurance company fails to resolve your complaint, you can lodge your complaint on the Insurance Bharosa website. Considering the number of complaints relating to insurance, the Insurance Bharosa website has been made accessible to all insurance companies, and it can be checked as to whether or not the complaints have been settled.
Moreover, these complaints are monitored by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). The Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services (DFS) of the government has informed insurance customers that if their complaints are not solved within a given period of time, they must approach the Grievance Redressal Cell.
Complaints related to insurance can be lodged with the Grievance Redressal Department by using the Insurance Bharosa website provided by IRDA. Through the Insurance Bharosa website, one can register his/her insurance complaints by using the toll-free number 155255 or 18004254732 or by contacting IRDA through its email. This call center operates in 12 languages. This way, anyone from any region can lodge insurance complaints.
The DFS stated that, as per IRDA regulations, all companies are required to resolve customer complaints within 14 days. Customers can also file complaints with a company's complaint cell digitally, through the call center, or by post. Every insurance company is mandated to appoint a grievance officer who will act as a nodal officer between the company and customers.
The establishment of a Claims Monitoring Committee is also mandatory in insurance companies. By the end of this year, customers will be able to purchase and compare various new insurance products, including health insurance, on IRDA's Insurance Sugam portal.
The Insurance Sugam portal has been partially launched and is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. With the permission of 100% foreign investment in the insurance sector, many new companies are likely to enter this sector, which will increase competition among companies and benefit customers.
Life insurance companies received 1,19,027 complaints in the last financial year 2025-26. General insurance companies received 1,18,429 complaints, and health insurance companies received 64,171 complaints.
