It is possible that you might be witnessing a high sugar and salt warning on food packs very soon. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suggested a red warning sticker on the packs of foods and beverages that are rich in sugar, salt, and fats.

It will warn consumers about the risks before buying them. Nestlé, PepsiCo, and Coca-Cola are resisting this action as they have fear regarding the sales.

According to a Reuters report, referring to a filing made by the FSSAI in the Supreme Court, it was revealed that the warning labels would carry necessary information such as high fat, high sugar, high salt, or highly sugary beverages to enable consumers to know about the presence of more of these nutrients in them.

FSSAI had provided this information in the Supreme Court while hearing the petitions for using warning labels as in the Western world.

In a hearing earlier this month, the Supreme Court had asked the FSSAI to expedite the process of affixing these labels. In a previous hearing, the Supreme Court had reprimanded the FSSAI for the long delay in affixing the required warning labels on packaged food.
