Mumbai, Aug 1 — Hollywood actor Vin Diesel has marked the 25-year journey of the Fast & Furious franchise by announcing that the original film will return to theatres across the United States and several other countries as the series prepares for its finale, Fast Forever.

In an Instagram post, Diesel recalled the early days of production. “When I was filming the first Fast, it was just me and my puppy… 25 years later, as we build the finale, ‘Fast Forever’ the original is returning to theaters in America and around the world,” he wrote. He added that the re-release will cover Spain, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Italy and China, noting that the list of territories continues to grow. “We’ve come a long way,” he said.

The Fast & Furious franchise is an action series centred on street racing, heists and later espionage. The first film, based on a 1998 Vibe magazine article titled “Racer X” by Ken Li and written by Gary Scott Thompson, Erik Bergquist and David Ayer, was released in 2001. The initial four instalments focused primarily on illegal street racing. Beginning with Fast Five, the series shifted towards large-scale heists and spy elements, a direction that continued through subsequent films. An eleventh and final chapter, Fast Forever, is scheduled for release in 2028.

Diesel, 58, is best known for portraying Dominic “Dom” Toretto throughout the franchise. He first gained wider attention with a supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998) and later appeared in films such as Boiler Room, The Pacifier, XXX and The Chronicles of Riddick.
