Those who have worked as assistants in areas of electrical, mechanical, or construction work after passing their 10th grade examinations now have a reason to smile because now they can get their diplomas while still working.
According to the decision by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), people who have worked in any of the above-mentioned fields are eligible to join diploma courses right from the first year due to their practical experience. AICTE has even made a special category for this and named it "Working Professional." This decision has been made following an important resolution passed in a recent meeting of the All India Board of Technical Education (AIB-TE).
This has been directed to be implemented by all states on an immediate basis. A letter has been sent by AICTE to state directors of technical education asking them to arrange a transparent admission process based on merit and entrance examination, followed by central counseling.
Technical educational institutions have also been instructed not to conduct any entrance exams for admissions at the institute level. They have also been asked to ensure that all AICTE-approved diploma institutes under their jurisdiction, including polytechnics and universities, strictly adhere to these rules during admissions for the new academic session.
For admission, a tenth-grade pass mark sheet and one year of experience will be required. To verify this experience, a certificate from the institute or MSME where they are working will be required. An NOC will also be required, stating that they have no objection to studying while working.
Such individuals will be admitted to nearby polytechnics or technical institutes, allowing them to easily attend weekend or evening classes.
This decision will directly benefit millions of working individuals who, due to financial or family reasons, entered employment directly after completing the tenth grade. Due to lack of time, they were unable to pursue further education. Now, without leaving their jobs, they will be able to complete a technical diploma at their own flexible hours, such as night or weekend batches. This will open new avenues for them to pursue promotions in companies and government jobs.
