Mumbai, July 31 — Actress and politician Kangana Ranaut on Friday shared a childhood photograph from 1997 in which she portrayed Maa Sita in a school play based on the Ramayana.
Reposting the image on her social media account with the caption “Sweet memories,” Ranaut noted that the picture was from the 1997 batch of her school in Sarkaghat, in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. The photograph shows a young Ranaut dressed as Sita in a red sari, standing beside a fellow student playing Lord Ram, while another child costumed as Hanuman kneels in front with folded hands.
She also posted a closer crop of the same image focused solely on herself, captioning it “My aashirwad to all liberals.”
The post comes amid recent remarks by Ranaut on the ongoing Gen Z protests. In a series of social media comments this week, she criticised the demonstrators and used strong language, objecting in particular to the tone of some online and street criticism directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the professional front, Ranaut was last seen in the medical drama-thriller Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film is based on the actions of staff at Mumbai’s Cama and Albless Hospital during the 26/11 terror attacks. Ranaut played a nurse in a narrative that pays tribute to doctors, nurses and hospital workers who protected nearly 400 patients. The film received a mixed response at the box office.
By revisiting the 1997 school production, Ranaut offered a personal recollection of an early performance rooted in the Ramayana while simultaneously addressing contemporary political discourse through her accompanying caption.
