Cyclone 'Shakti', which was moving towards the northern coast of Maharashtra, has moved towards Oman. This has reduced the risk of damage to Maharashtra and Gujarat, but the possibility of heavy rainfall in some parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada cannot be ruled out.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned of 'Shakti' affecting Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg between October 4 and 7. A warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall was also issued for these areas, as well as parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada in the state of Maharashtra.
According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone was centered over the northwest and northeast Arabian Sea around 12 noon on Saturday. It was located about 420 km from Dwarka. It is reported that it is moving towards the Masirah coast of Oman.
It is worth noting that heavy rains in Maharashtra over the past 15 days have caused significant damage. The government is currently busy preparing an assessment of this damage so that relief can be provided to farmers before Diwali.
