The FSSAI food regulatory body has issued a notice to Heritage Foods Limited for misleading claims about their product 'Fresh Paneer'. This was announced by FSSAI on Monday.

FSSAI has sought responses from the company in seven days on reasons that should not lead to action being taken against it under the FSS Act, 2006. In a social media post, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mentioned that it has issued the notice for misleading claims about the product 'Heritage Fresh Paneer.'

The regulator stated, "The claim of 'fresh cheese' does not meet the conditions prescribed for the use of the word 'fresh' under Schedule V." FSSAI stated that, therefore, the use of the word 'fresh' may mislead consumers and is considered misleading.

The use of the word 'healthy' in the trademark/name 'Healthy Happiness' in the social media post is not in accordance with Regulation 8(3) of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018. FSSAI stated, "The use of the word 'healthy' may create an impression that the product inherently promotes or enhances health, thereby making the claim misleading."

Recently, the regulator has been posting on social media platforms regarding its actions taken against food business operators (FBOs). These notices have been issued on both suo motu cognizance and based on consumer complaints.
