It proved to be a successful day for Indian boxers in the third round of Boxing World Cup Stage 2 held at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium of Guiyang, China. Nikhil, Deepak, and Sneha won their matches and advanced to the next round.
Nikhil defeated Kelvi Trindade of Brazil 5-0 in the 55kg category of men. In the 70kg weight class, Deepak defeated Sewon Okazawa of Japan who was a silver medallist in the World Championship 5-0. In the 65kg women’s category, Sneha displayed her skills very well and won the match against Seon Sujin of South Korea 4-1 and qualified.
However, not everything went according to plan. Malsawmtluanga suffered defeat in the 80kg category when he lost 1-4 against Ashaish Hussein of Jordan. Mahi Lama of the Indian women boxing team also suffered defeat in the 60kg category and was beaten 0-5 by Monkhor Namuun of Mongolia. On the second day of the World Cup, the Indian boxers performed admirably well and moved into the next round.
On the fourth day, two Indian boxers will enter the ring. In the women's 51 kg category, Meenakshi will face Natalia Kuczewska of Poland, while in the men's 65 kg category, Avinash Jamwal will face Mirzokhid Imamnazarov of Kyrgyzstan. The consistent performances of Indian boxers have raised the country's hopes of further medals.
