The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), India's richest municipal body, put its budget for 2025-26 worth Rs 74,427 crore in front of its general body for approval on Tuesday.
Additional Municipal Commissioners of BMC presented the budget in front of Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, who is the state-appointed administrator of the municipal body, at its headquarters in Mumbai. The municipal body has been under an administrator since the term of the corporators ended on March 7, 2022.
The document said, "The budget estimate for the financial year 2025-26 is proposed to be Rs 74427.41 crore, which is 14.19 percent higher than the budget estimate of 2024-25 i.e. Rs 65180.79 crore."
For the third year, the budget was presented before the administrator, while normally the municipal commissioner used to present the budget before the standing committee.
