Official ownership-transfer requirements include a valid insurance certificate among the supporting documents. Buyers should retain acknowledgements and track the registration application.
After receiving revised documents, compare the owner’s name, address, registration number, engine details, and chassis details. Report errors promptly.
Keep a Practical Purchase File
A complete file makes later communication easier.
Keep copies of:
- The sale agreement and delivery note
- The old and revised policy schedules
- Registration-transfer acknowledgements
- Claim records shared by the seller
- Inspection or repair documents
- Correspondence with the insurer
- Proof relating to any eligible NCB
Keep them until both transfers are reflected.
Ask the Right Questions before Payment
Complete insurance checks before treating the purchase as finished. Confirm whether the policy is active, whether a claim is pending, who owns the NCB, and whether the insurer has accepted the transfer request. Check whether the cover will continue without interruption and whether a fresh inspection is required.
Do not rely on statements that insurance simply comes with the car. Ask for documents showing what has transferred and what still needs action.
