NCL Research & Financial Services reported a significant improvement in its financial performance for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, with the company returning to profitability after reporting a substantial loss in the preceding quarter.
The company reported total income of ₹222.07 lakh in Q1 FY27, compared with a loss-making quarter in Q4 FY26, when total income stood at a negative ₹26.23 lakh. The improvement was supported by a strong recovery in other income, including gains from F&O trading and investments.
NCL Research reported profit before tax of ₹148.63 lakh in Q1 FY27, marking a strong turnaround from a loss before tax of ₹686.51 lakh in Q4 FY26. On a year-on-year basis, however, profit before tax was ₹227.09 lakh in Q1 FY26.
Profit for the quarter stood at ₹112.91 lakh, against a loss of ₹559.32 lakh in the preceding quarter. This represents a substantial sequential improvement in the company’s bottom line.
The company’s basic and diluted EPS stood at ₹0.01 per share, compared with negative ₹0.05 in the preceding quarter.
Expenses decline dramatically
A key positive factor during the quarter was the sharp reduction in total expenses.
NCL Research’s total expenses declined to ₹73.44 lakh in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹660.28 lakh in Q4 FY26, indicating a significant improvement in the company’s cost structure.
The reduction was particularly visible in credit-related provisions. Expected Credit Loss (ECL) provision declined to ₹37.29 lakh from ₹398.74 lakh in the preceding quarter, while bad debts written off came down to nil from ₹134.59 lakh in Q4 FY26.
Employee benefit expenses also moderated to ₹16.95 lakh from ₹32.21 lakh in the preceding quarter.
Interest income remains a key contributor
Interest income stood at ₹166.06 lakh during Q1 FY27, compared with ₹28.04 lakh in Q4 FY26. Dividend income also increased to ₹0.56 lakh from ₹0.36 lakh sequentially.
The company additionally reported ₹52.65 lakh from F&O trading and ₹2.80 lakh in gains from investments during the quarter, supporting overall income.
Strong sequential recovery provides positive momentum
The Q1 FY27 numbers indicate a considerable sequential improvement in NCL Research’s financial performance, particularly in profitability and expense management. The company moved from a substantial loss in the March quarter to a profit in the June quarter, while credit-loss provisions and overall expenses declined sharply.
The company operates in the Finance & Investments segment, with its business classified as a single operating segment under Ind AS 108.
The results were reviewed by the Audit Committee and approved by the Board of Directors at its meeting held on August 11, 2026. The statutory auditors also conducted a limited review of the financial results.
Overall, the Q1 FY27 performance reflects a strong sequential turnaround for NCL Research & Financial Services, with the sharp reduction in expenses, lower ECL provisioning and return to profitability emerging as the key positives for investors.
