And then we get to notice and actually hear the sounds of the city and the wind in the trees.
 

2.A Circle of Magic

People blessed with open terraces and beautiful balconies can utilize this rarest time of the year when ‘light pollution’ dips just enough to see the stars more clearly. Grab a mat and accompany the children to spot Orion or the Great Bear. Sit in a circle with a candle, for the kids this is pure magic and no less than a campsite. Since Ram Navami is just a few days away, we can tell them the story of Lord Rama, the original superhero. You can share his tales of courage, his monkey army or the legendary bravery of ancient kings. In the dark these stories feel more alive, sparking an imagination that no TV show can match.

3.The ‘Eco Menu’ Dinner

Why use the microwave or gas stove? Make Earth Hour a ‘Cold-Prep’ night. Since we aren't using electricity, we can focus on fresh, easy to assemble meals that feel like a picnic for instance fresh sprouted salads, sandwiches, or even a simple fruit cream. For the preparations we can suggest the older kids to try a ‘DIY Sandwich Bar’ or a ‘Salad Station’. Let them wash the veggies and assemble their own plates using only the light of candle, it saves energy and teaches them that a great meal doesn't always need a plug point. It is about the ingredients and the people sitting around the candle. Also eating in a low light increases your sense of taste and smell.
 

4.Setting the ‘Green Resolution’  

Using this hour to pick one ‘Green resolution’ for the rest of 2026. Whether it's swapping your plastic bottles for steel ones, starting a tiny kitchen garden with a single pot of mint or chilies or committing to ‘no gadget' for half an hour after waking up. These small daily choices turn a habit into a yearlong legacy for the planet.
