Ahmedabad Emerges as a Primary Commercial Powerhouse
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], February 10:The growth narrative around Ahmedabad is undergoing a decisive shift.
In a recent post on social media platform X, Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO – India, South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE, said that “the narrative in Ahmedabad has shifted from organic expansion to intentional, high-paced growth.” He noted that the city’s evolution is increasingly being shaped by deliberate, strategy-led expansion.
Referring to his recent visit, Magazine said, “During my recent visit to the city, I met with our city team who are driving high-impact transactions and real estate and infrastructure solutions that are setting new benchmarks in the region.” He added that CBRE continues to “deliver unparalleled value to our clients, helping them optimize their portfolios and ensure operational resilience for their businesses.”
Underlining the broader transformation underway, Magazine observed that “Ahmedabad is no longer just a regional hub; it is maturing into a primary commercial powerhouse for Western India.” He pointed out that this shift is underpinned by “robust infrastructure tailwinds and a notable surge in long-term institutional investor confidence.”
Highlighting GIFT City as a key indicator of this momentum, Magazine said, “GIFT City today is no longer just a ‘vision’; it is hitting critical mass.” He noted that “with nearly half of its 62 million sq. ft. planned built-up area already allotted, the project demonstrates significant institutional confidence.”
Referring to policy support, he added that “the Union Budget 2026 provides a tax holiday extension for GIFT City entities to 20 years, followed by a concessional 15% corporate tax rate.” According to him, “this will enhance GIFT City’s competitiveness as an offshore financial hub and may drive demand for Grade A offices and specialised fintech infrastructure.”
Turning to connectivity, Magazine pointed out that “the expansion of the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro network to over 68 km serves as a vital economic artery.” He said that “by linking key urban nodes through Phase II, the city is effectively widening its office catchment area,” adding that “this transit-oriented development ensures GIFT City remains accessible to a diverse talent pool across the twin cities.”
Magazine further highlighted civic infrastructure as a key enabler, stating that “the successful delivery of massive projects such as the Narendra Modi Stadium serves as a proof of concept for the region’s administrative capabilities.” He added that these anchors “demonstrate the technical and logistical expertise to manage world-class infrastructure, high-density crowds and complex urban planning.”
Looking ahead, Magazine said that “Ahmedabad’s long-range planning is gaining another milestone, with the city formally ratified as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.” He noted that this development is “likely to keep infrastructure delivery and urban planning firmly in focus in the years ahead.”
