17-Year-Old Skating Prodigy Naisha Mehta Scripts History for India

Naisha’s journey began at just 4½ years old, when she first stepped onto the rink with a pair of skates. Over the years, what began as play has turned into a path of consistent dedication, hard work, and focused ambition. Her achievements include 10 National Golds, 28 State Golds, and 23 District-level Golds, and this recent international win cements her place as one of India’s most promising young talents in the sport.

What truly sets Naisha apart is dynamic mix of athletic excellence and academic distinction. Ranked AIR 6 with a 98.6% in her ICSE 10th Boards, she has consistently topped national and international math and science Olympiads, including the Gauss, Pascal, SEAMO, and Dr. Homi Bhabha competitions. From securing 1st rank out of 3,839 students in the IPM Scholarship Exam to placing 2nd out of over 30,000 in a national math talent test, her track record reflects consistency, intellect, and drive. She was also the 1st Runner-Up at the Pearl Padamsee Trophy for Excellence in Drama, proving her ability to excel across disciplines.

“Skating is where I find freedom,” says Naisha. “Winning gold for India was a dream I lived on that rink.” Her coach, Ms. Adesh Singh (Team India Coach and an International Judge), who has trained her for 13 years, added: “It was her moment, but it felt like ours too.”

Looking ahead, Naisha hopes to represent India at the Pacific Cup and World Championships, train with global experts, and become a role model for young girls in sports. She is currently seeking sponsors and partnerships to support her journey forward.
