Whatever no Indian opener could do in England, KL Rahul did it very easily

The first match of India-England's five-match Test series is being played at Headingley, Leeds. In the match, Indian opener KL Rahul earned another distinction in his name by playing outstandingly in the second innings. KL Rahul did something no Indian batsman has managed to do as an opener on English soil till date. After scoring 42 runs in the first innings of the first Test match against England, KL Rahul scored a brilliant century in the second innings. With this innings, he has become the Indian player to score the most centuries on England soil as an opener. As an opener, he now has 3 Test centuries in England, with which he has left behind Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant and Ravi Shastri. Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant and Ravi Shastri have scored 2 centuries each as openers in England. If we talk about overall records, West Indies great Gordon Greenidge has scored the most centuries (six) in England as an opener in Test cricket. Indian opener KL Rahul scored the 9th century of his Test career. He played 202 balls for this century and completed it with the help of 14 fours. Interestingly, KL Rahul has scored eight centuries away from home. This is also KL Rahul's 5th century as an opener in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia), bringing him closer to Sunil Gavaskar, who holds the Indian record with 8 centuries.
