With an unbroken century partnership between Sanju Samson and Kartik Tyagi, Chennai Super Kings registered a resounding 8-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday night. This 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with CSK winning the match to keep their playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are on the verge of elimination after losing their sixth match. Captain Axar Patel stated, "Now we have to win."
After losing the match, Axar Patel said, "Obviously, 155 was a good total considering the way the wicket played in the first innings. We were playing with eight batsmen, and we fell short by about 10-15 runs." Regarding the pitch, he said, "It got a little better later on, but the set batsmen made the difference. When a batsman is well set, it seems like there's nothing in the pitch, but I still feel there was something in it."
He explained that it wasn't easy for the newcomers. "It wasn't easy for the newcomers, because, as you know, the length balls were coming in with a stop, sometimes staying low, sometimes stopping and bouncing. So, it was very difficult for the new batsmen. But when the set batsmen were playing, it seemed easy. You could see how Sanju took the game forward."
Regarding the batting, Axar said, "Looking at our batting, it's a positive thing that even after losing five wickets, the way we finished the innings in the end was good. This is a positive thing." Regarding their remaining matches in IPL 2026, he said, "Obviously, we can't afford to make any mistakes now. Therefore, we must enter the field with a clear mindset that we must win, whatever time or opportunity we get."
