The Indian cricket team won its first match on the England tour on Tuesday when it defeated England by six wickets in the first ODI. England chose to bat first but managed to score just 258 runs in 46 overs. India chased down 259 runs in 46 overs but conceded only four wickets.

Axar Patel had a terrific all-round show. Axar took four wickets in the game while batting, too, and made an unbeaten half-century. Axar was the fastest to score his fifty in the match and helped India win the match.

In the post-match interview after the loss, England skipper Harry Brook talked about the mistakes that cost them the opening ODI. Harry said that England lost five wickets in a period of just 20 runs in the middle overs. The batsmen performed exceptionally well in the latter part but couldn't score past 250.

While praising his batters, Harry Brook identified the loss of five wickets for 20 runs as the primary cause of the defeat. When asked post-match if a score of 260 could have been defended, he remarked that the pitch slowed down later, making it easier for Team India to score runs. He stated that had the team not lost those five wickets in such a short span, they could have posted a total in the range of 320 to 330 runs. It is worth noting that key Team India batters like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul could not score many runs in this match. However, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel batted brilliantly to secure an easy victory for the Indian team.

Earlier, in the bowling department, Axar Patel claimed four wickets for 62 runs in 9.5 overs, while Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar picked up two wickets each. Shivam Dube and Jasprit Bumrah also claimed one wicket apiece.
