The Indian government has allowed Indigo Airlines to wet-lease planes from Turkey up to March 2026 only. This is a final decision, and there will be no further extensions for them.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that Indigo has been granted permission to operate wet-leased aircraft from Turkey, but this permission will be valid only until March 2026.
The Indian government has taken this decision due to escalating tensions with Turkey and concerns about security. Turkish company Celevi's security clearance in India was withdrawn, after which IndiGo was allowed to operate wet-leased aircraft from Turkey.
IndiGo has acquired 15 aircraft on wet-lease from Turkey, of which 7 are from Turkish companies. IndiGo has been granted permission to acquire 5 more Airbus A320 aircraft from Turkey, but these aircraft have not yet entered service.
IndiGo would have to cease the operation of wet-leased planes from Turkey by March 2026. IndiGo would require adding more planes to its fleet in order to maintain its operation on the international routes.
