Beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will receive ₹300 per cylinder through direct benefit transfer (DBT) for the first four refills.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, on average, a household under Ujjwala Yojana requires around four cylinders in a year. Earlier, beneficiaries under PMUY received subsidy for nine refills annually.

In an official statement issued Monday, the government reduced subsidized gas cylinders for PMUY beneficiaries from nine to four annually. As per the government, the reduction is made considering the average use of gas by beneficiaries.

Launched in May 2016, beneficiaries initially received 12 subsidized cylinders of 14.2 kg each annually. In the previous year, it was further reduced to nine, and now it stands at four cylinders per year.

Praveen Mal Khanuja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said at a media briefing that the new number of subsidized cylinders roughly corresponds to the average amount of gas used annually by Ujjwala beneficiaries, news agency PTI reported.
