A concrete proposal has been made by Russia in the Ministry of Defense of India in view of India’s request to buy five squadrons of S-400 Sudarshan advanced air defense system for the Indian Air Force.

S-400 played an important role in India’s victory in Operation Sindoor. This air defense system shot down many Pakistani surveillance and fighter jets and made sure that they did not approach within 200 kilometers of the Indian border.

Defense sources stated, “Response from Russia to the tender floated by India has been received and is now being processed. Cost of this project will be over ₹50,000 crore.”

Four out of the five squadrons of S-400 have already been handed over to India under the first contract signed by both the nations in 2018. Fifth squadron will join the Indian Air Force by November this year.

Delivery of the missile system under the proposed new contract is expected to begin approximately three years after the deal was signed. India approved plans to purchase five more squadrons of the Russian S-400 in March this year, shortly after the end of Operation Sindoor.

These additional squadrons are expected to be deployed on both the eastern and western fronts to strengthen India's multi-layered air defense system network. India is also purchasing over 280 missiles for the S-400 to bolster its arsenal.
