According to reports, Pakistan has acquired a $580 million stake in the BRICS New Development Bank to minimize dependence on World Bank and IMF.

In November 2023, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan wants to join BRICS.

She stated that Pakistan believes that by joining BRICS, Pakistan can play an important role in enhancing international cooperation and strengthening an inclusive multilateral system.

Pakistan's Ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, also stated that the country is seeking support from member states, especially Russia. Despite the support of Moscow and Beijing, India's opposition is preventing Pakistan's entry into BRICS.
