The NTA informed the Parliamentary Committee about the experience gained from conducting the NEET-UG re-exam. According to the NTA, NEET-UG examination will be in the form of Computer Based Test (CBT) in the coming year, and the arrangements have been made in this regard.

Answering a query regarding why NEET-UG is not conducted through a multistage process like the UPSC and JEE examinations, the NTA informed that they were considering some changes in NEET-UG and would inform the same during their next meeting.

The NTA had conducted a presentation before the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Women, and Child Development, headed by senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Wasnik, on June 21. The Parliamentary Committee had asked NTA to give an insight into its experience gained from conducting the NEET-UG re-exam.

According to the NTA, it had learned ten major lessons from the re-exam, one of which was maintaining the complete in-house question paper preparation.

In addition, initiatives included ensuring strict security for question paper printing, safe transportation, strengthening coordination with central, state, and district administrations, developing a robust student-centric system, providing prompt resolution to any student concerns, controlling misinformation on the internet, and ensuring the exam is conducted within the stipulated timeframe and the results are released on time.

The committee members raised questions about the challenges associated with conducting the exam in CBT mode, eliminating the dependence on coaching institutes, and other initiatives. However, no response was given by the NTA or the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of the High-Level Committee on Reforms in NEET-UG and former Chairman of ISRO, who attended the committee meeting for the first time, also provided information on the steps being taken to improve the exam.

Dr. Radhakrishnan stated that he would take further steps to improve the exam in the coming days. According to PTI, members of the Parliamentary Committee praised the successful conduct of the NEET-UG re-examination and demanded statutory status for the NTA.

Approximately 18 MPs from the BJP and Congress, as well as other parties, participated in the meeting. Former ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan, Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, and NTA Director General Abhishek Singh were also present.

The NTA informed the Parliamentary Committee that the NEET-UG results will be declared before July 20th. The evaluation process is progressing rapidly. The NTA stated that this time they conducted the re-examination in 37 days.

The NTA declined to comment on the May 3 NEET-UG exam paper leak, stating that the CBI investigation is ongoing. They are fully cooperating with the investigating agency. Several arrests have been made so far.

In another meeting, the committee discussed the use of AI in education and the challenges associated with it with the AICTE and experts.
