The 1033 helpline, which is run by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in the case of any emergency or breakdown of the vehicle, is being upgraded using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The upgraded system will automatically detect the location of the caller along with multi-lingual support.
It has been mentioned by NHAI that even when the modern technology is added to the existing system, there will be human interaction wherever judgment or discretion is needed, especially during emergencies. The 1033 helpline started operating in 2018 and operates round the clock.
With the help of this helpline, travelers can get help regarding medical emergencies, vehicle breakdowns, ambulances, cranes, patrol vehicles, toll plaza and FASTag related matters, etc.
This helpline is claimed to cover more than 1.46 lakh kilometers of national highways and gets around 15,000 calls a day. The upgraded version will provide improved assistance in the call receiving process as well as reaching out to the place where assistance is needed.
The caller's location will be captured in real time to help emergency teams reach the scene. AI will be used to manage calls in various Indian languages.
The system will help identify and dispatch the most appropriate ambulance, crane, or patrol vehicle. Additionally, travelers will receive timely information about incidents and other important developments.
Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company under NHAI, has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) for development, design, deployment, operation and maintenance of Next Generation 1033 Helpline Call Centre.
