The tensions in the Middle East seem to have no end. Attacks on Indian ships are still happening in Hormuz. In addition, two ships with Indians onboard have also been attacked in Hormuz.
The Union Minister for Shipping, Sarbananda Sonowal, said on Friday that two separate attacks happened on ships with 24 Indians onboard but all of them are safe and nobody was harmed.
In an Instagram post, Sarbananda Sonowal informed that crude oil tanker MT ST 3 had been attacked by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz on 16 October. This ship had 15 Indian sailors onboard. The other attack took place on 14 October at Sulina Anchorage, Romania, where chemical tanker Yara J with nine Indian sailors onboard had been attacked by a drone.
It is a matter of great relief that all the 24 Indians onboard both ships are absolutely safe. There were no casualties or injuries.
He stated that the government is monitoring both situations and is in constant contact with the ship management companies to ensure the safety and well-being of the crew members.
These incidents come amid repeated attacks on commercial vessels carrying Indian sailors in the Middle East and the Black Sea region.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had previously condemned the attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on October 11th. The Ministry described these attacks as extremely worrying and warned that they could further escalate the already tense situation.
