India's star fast bowler Mohammed Shami is suffering from an ankle problem that needs treatment and the Indian team management is hopeful that he will be fit in time for the first Test against South Africa starting on December 26 in Centurion.

Shami has been included in the Test squad for the South Africa tour, but his availability will depend on fitness. It is learned that Shami was consulting 'Sports Orthopedic' in Mumbai for the treatment of his ankle problem.

BCCI source said that this is not an on-field injury. He is having some problems with his ankle. Shami came to Mumbai for doctors' advice. He will also go to NCA for rehabilitation and treatment. If Shami was unlikely to recover in time for the 'Boxing Day Test', the national selectors would not have selected him.
