This observation regarding America has come from Chinese ambassador to India Xu Feihong, without naming it, after it imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. Responding to the American tariff, the Chinese ambassador quoted his foreign minister Wang Yi's discussion with the Brazilian president, where he mentioned that America is employing tariffs as a weapon. This is a clear disregard for the UN Charter.
In a phone conversation with the Brazilian president's chief advisor, Celso Amorim, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that America uses tariffs as a weapon to suppress other countries. It violates the UN Charter. It undermines WTO rules. Doing so is both unpopular and untenable.
