A sinkhole has been created below a historical canal in England, which has led to a serious situation. This large sinkhole has engulfed some boats, as well as reduced the water level in the canal largely. This has led to an emergency in rural England.

The accident happened on the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, near Whitchurch, Shropshire, near the Welsh Border. The sinking of a portion of the side of the canal created a desperate situation, resulting in the draining of millions of liters of water into adjacent fields. The canal was constructed some 200years ago.

It caused two boats to fall into the crater, while the third boat was left teetering on the brink of collapse. Owing to the severity of the incident, 50 firefighters were sent to the scene. Rescue teams also arrived at the scene. More than 10 people were rescued from nearby homes.

The Canal and River Trust, which manages most of Britain's inland waterways, has launched an investigation into the incident. Repairing the damaged sections and refilling the canal could take months. Police have cordoned off the area and urged people to stay away, as the canal bank remains unstable.
