Elon Musk's Tesla is well-known worldwide for its electric cars. But now BYD has posed a significant challenge to Musk's Tesla's dominance. According to media reports, BYD has surpassed Tesla in global sales.

Data shows that in 2025, the number of cars sold in the country by Tesla is 1.63 million. Unfortunately, it experienced a sales decrease of 8.6 percent on a yearly basis. Additionally, the production of cars by Tesla reduced to 6.7 million per annum. Interestingly, it's the first time the American electric car company, Tesla, experienced a drop in car sales. Clearly, BYD continues to experience a remarkable increase in its yearly car sales.

According to reports, worldwide sales of BYD’s vehicles last year reached 4.6 million, surpassing the sales of Tesla. This sales data also indicates a jump of 7.7% as compared to the year before. Musk’s Tesla and BYD have operations in the Indian market along with other companies. However, Tesla has only one model and two electric vehicles available in the Indian automobiles market.
