When US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer landed in India on Monday, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal greeted him along with US Ambassador Sergio Gor and the delegation to the Department of Commerce. According to him, he hopes that the negotiations would mark the beginning of dialogue on the trade agreement.

Quoting a post by US Ambassador Gor on the social media platform X, Union Minister Goyal wrote, "Welcome to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, and the delegation at India's Department of Commerce. We look forward to productive discussions on the bilateral trade agreement during the upcoming talks between India and the US." Meanwhile, Gor wrote that it was a pleasure meeting Union Minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in New Delhi today. Negotiations to finalize the trade deal between the US and India are ongoing.

Earlier, while welcoming Greer to India in a post, Gor wrote, "Welcome here as we advance our ambitious trade agenda. We are moving rapidly towards finalizing a robust bilateral trade agreement that will unlock new economic opportunities for both nations, further strengthening the US-India economic partnership." On Monday, Gor had stated that US Trade Representative Greer would hold multiple rounds of meetings with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. The objective of these meetings is to advance the trade agreement ahead of a critical tariff deadline coming up next month.

Greer's discussions with Piyush Goyal are taking place at a time when both nations are striving to finalize the framework for the first phase of the proposed bilateral trade agreement before the crucial tariff deadline next month.
