The Ministry of Labor and Employment has come up with a major amnesty scheme for the provident fund trusts. This amnesty scheme has been brought in force under the Employees' Provident Fund Scheme 2026. This is meant to offer a one time chance to those trusts which do not possess any formal exemption order.

These provisions came into effect on June 29, 2026. It is an implementation of these provisions through the transitional period. These provisions will be helpful for those provident fund trusts recognized under the Income Tax Act, 1961. But the trusts do not have a formal exemption order under the Employees' Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 and similarly under the Social Security Code, 2020.

This initiative has been taken by the EPFO to ensure maximum awareness regarding the matter. The organization has conducted extensive multi-channel campaigns across the country.

This amnesty scheme is a special opportunity for provident fund trusts. It will help them regularize their exemption status. Many trusts are registered under the Income Tax Act, 1961, but they do not have a formal exemption order under the EPF and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, or the Social Security Code, 2020. This is a one-time opportunity so that such trusts can legally correct their status.

EPFO has taken several strategic steps to increase awareness about this scheme. The organization has held meetings with key industry bodies such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Chartered accountants and statutory auditors have been engaged to identify and assist eligible provident fund trusts. Additionally, EPFO regional and zonal offices have organized nationwide seminars and workshops aimed at directly engaging with local establishments, employers, and trust members. These efforts have been supported by multi-media campaigns, social media, and informative infographics that simplify compliance guidelines.
