Mahindra Auto has been a pioneer in the lifestyle SUV category in India through its Thar and Thar Roxx models. The Thar 3-door variant has been upgraded with some new features and a new moniker. The new model will now be referred to as Thar OG and comes with many upgrades not available in the Thar Roxx. The Thar OG comes with the DaVinci Suspension System, which should also be part of the upcoming Thar Roxx, as seen in test mule versions.
Spy photos of the rear of the Thar Roxx have been published. It is unclear what changes have been implemented. Currently, the Thar Roxx model already comes with many suspension systems not available in any rival lifestyle SUV. These include penta-link rear suspension and AFD, ensuring a smooth ride experience while being good at off-roading.
Standard Frequency Dependent Dampers operate on a linear damping curve, adjusting oil flow based on the road surface. They feature a mechanical valve that opens on rough roads and closes on smooth roads. Mahindra's DaVinci dampers are essentially frequency dampers but feature a uniquely designed mechanical valve.
Their unique shim stack design and positioning provide a non-linear damping curve, with oil flow varying at different points in the damper. This technology provides excellent traction during sudden and large impacts, as well as oil diversions. The updated Thar Roxx with DaVinci suspension is expected to launch soon.
