The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme has established a new world record among production cars and has reached a speed of 503.17 km/h in a high-speed challenge. The record was made on the E11 Highway in Abu Dhabi. This record has been acknowledged by the FIA and Guinness World Records, which means that the U9 Xtreme became the first production car with the speed of more than 500 km/h.
The record has been set on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Road in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi. The professional racing driver Marc Basseng drove this car and reached a speed of 503.17 km/h on the highway. The previous record was 496.22 km/h. The current record is 6.95 km/h faster than the previous one. It has been established in November 2025 at ATP Papenburg testing center in Germany. At a speed of 503.17 kmph, the car covers a distance of 140 meters in 1 second.
The car runs on a 1,200V high-voltage platform and uses four electric motors that can reach up to 30,000 rpm. Its total output is 2,220 kW (2,977 hp), but the FIA says it exceeds 3,000 hp. To maintain safety and balance at these high speeds, the car's tires, cooling architecture, and body control systems have been specifically optimized for ultra-high-speed operation.
In August 2025, it lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes and 59.157 seconds, becoming the first mass-produced electric supercar to break the 7-minute mark. The car features several major aero upgrades, including a large carbon front splitter, rear diffuser, dual-channel hood, and a long swan-neck rear spoiler.
Its torque vectoring system adjusts up to 100 times per second, delivering 1,200 hp per ton. BYD has confirmed that the Yangwang UP Xtreme is limited in production, with only 30 units being built globally.
